Tribute to Tim Satchwell, 1961 - 2023

Dedicated to the memory of Tim Satchwell aka Combat Tim

This site is a tribute to Tim Satchwell who passed away on 7th December 2023 at home in Cambridge. Our son Hal and I are devastated at his loss but honoured to have been part of his life. One of the kindest and most humble people you could hope to meet, amazing husband and dad and a talented author, poet, artist and musician. So pleased he managed to finish and see the final version of his latest Clash book One More Time (Sandinista). During his illness he received amazing care and attention from the Renal Oncology department at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge. We would be grateful for any donations to Kidney Cancer UK to help with their work increasing knowledge and awareness, providing patient information and supporting research into kidney cancer.

Played in a short lived band with Tim called Radio City did maybe three gigs and recorded a demo. He was a good bass player and a great guy. RIP Tim much love Neil

Only met Tim briefly on a couple of visits South, to Maxilla. Found Tim to be a warm person, we had a few chats after I got his Combat Ready book, which I found inspiring. As a Clash fan, and Tim fan, I know how much he was looking forward to the making of Sandinista release. A lovely guy who is unquestionably missed. My thoughts and condolences to all Tim's family and friends for their loss. Rest in peace brother, stay free 😔💚✌️ Stephen Scott (Artist/Clash fan).

Tim was a warm, energetic, amazing guy and he was loved and will be sorely missed. I am so grateful that Analisa and I got to hang out with him in his last few years. Tim's almost certainly in heaven hanging out with Keith Levene right now.

When I was 13 years old, Uncle Spiny (our nickname for him after he visited with an epic mohawk!) took me to the music shops on Denmark Street. I had just started playing drums and was a bit shy about it but not in front of him. His calm excitement gave me the courage to bang away without a second thought. Tim was beaming with pride as he watched me. This moment made me feel brave and helped me overcome shyness in all aspects of my life.

When I was about 16, I mentioned to Tim that I was insecure about my gappy teeth. He reassured me that it was “cool to be unique” and that I looked “like a mix between Madonna and Gloria Estefan.” It was EXACTLY what I needed to hear as a pop-star obsessed teenager. I now wear that uniqueness as a badge of honor thanks to my Uncle Tim.
